These folks are claiming that Janet cancelled because of health reasons and a rumored pregnancy. I don’t believe she ever confirmed, and I think they are using the recent hulabaloo about her weight gain to save face.

“Janet Jackson has cancelled her appearance at the upcoming Soca Warriors Fete now scheduled to take place on Carnival Saturday.

TriStar Promotions, producers of the event, had confirmed three weeks ago that Jackson was contracted to host the event, but TriStar founder, Roy Maharaj, said yesterday that Jackson will not be coming because of health problems.

Reports coming out of New York, however, state that Jackson who within recent weeks gained a lot of pounds is pregnant. Maharaj said he is presently in negotiations with two other major female artistes from the United States, adding that come Carnival Saturday there will definitely be a top international celebrity hosting the fete.” The rest of the story

“AT FIRST, I didn’t believe it. I thought it was trick photography. Janet Jackson obese?

By the looks of recent photographs, she appears to be tipping the scales heavily (she’s gained at least 40 pounds) and moving dangerously toward a body mass index of 30+. The Centers for Disease Control define a person as medically obese if they have a BMI of 30 or higher, increasing the risk of heart disease, cancer and stroke, among other maladies.”
